Why ChatBoba exists
Most AI chat apps make a quiet assumption: you'll use their provider, their model, and their pricing — forever. They pick one ecosystem and build everything around it.
That works until you want to try a different model, compare outputs, or own your usage data. Then it doesn't.
ChatBoba was built around a different starting point: AI access should be flexible, transparent, and yours to control. That means choosing your provider, switching models freely, understanding what's being used and why, and deciding how you want to pay for it.
The goal isn't to be a better single-provider wrapper. It's to be a workspace that stays useful as models, providers, and your own needs evolve.
Compare models side-by-side
There's no single best AI model. Each major provider has a meaningfully different character — different reasoning styles, writing personalities, strengths, and tradeoffs. Running the same question through two models often produces genuinely different and complementary answers.
Reliable, widely integrated, and well-rounded. Strong at reasoning, code, and structured tasks. A sensible default for most use cases.
Thoughtful and nuanced. Excels at long-form writing, careful reasoning, and following complex instructions without drifting.
Google's multimodal model. Handles large contexts well, integrates with Google's ecosystem, and is a strong option for research and summarization.
Direct and conversational. Often faster, with a distinct voice. A useful counterpoint for comparing outputs and exploring different tones.
Some models are more creative and associative. Others are more precise and analytical. Some are better at code; others at open-ended brainstorming. Costs vary significantly too. Knowing which model to reach for, and when, is a skill worth developing — and ChatBoba makes the comparison easy without requiring separate accounts or tabs.
Bring your own keys
ChatBoba supports two ways to access AI. With personal API keys, you connect directly to providers — no markup, no intermediary, billed at their exact rates. With managed access, ChatBoba provides access through its own provider infrastructure where available, with no key setup required. Neither approach is inherently better; they suit different users and different situations.
- You connect your own provider API keys
- Billed directly by the provider at their rates — no markup
- Full usage visibility in ChatBoba and your provider dashboard
- Switch providers and models freely
- Your key, your account, your data
- Ideal for power users, developers, and anyone who wants full ownership
- ChatBoba provides access through managed provider credentials
- No API key setup needed — start immediately
- Curated model defaults
- Usage tracked against your ChatBoba account balance
- Ideal for casual users and those who prefer not to manage keys
You can switch between modes at any time from Settings → Access. If you add your own keys later, they take priority automatically. Managed access availability and supported providers continue to expand as the platform develops.
AI Studio
AI Studio is a separate workspace for running structured conversations with multiple AI participants at once. Each participant gets its own provider, model, system prompt, and style — all in a single session.
You can set them up to collaborate, debate, play specific roles, or approach a problem from different angles.
Most startups fail before finding a problem worth solving. They build confidently toward something the market doesn't actually need.
I'd reframe that — most fail because they discover the real problem too late. It's less about finding the right problem and more about how fast the feedback loop runs.
Isn't that basically the same thing?
Not quite. One is a product insight problem. The other is a process problem. You can have perfect product intuition and still fail on pace.
Exactly — and the process failure is more tractable. You can fix iteration speed without changing your market assumptions. That distinction matters when you're deciding what to improve.
Illustrative AI Studio session. Interface details and managed features may continue evolving during development.
Use it for structured brainstorming, perspective comparison, roleplay scenarios, or complex workflows that benefit from more than one "voice." AI Studio sessions are intentionally separated from your regular chat memory — they're a workspace for structured experimentation, not your day-to-day assistant.
Transparency and usage visibility
Many AI apps route your requests without telling you which model or provider is actually responding. You're talking to "the AI" — without knowing whose infrastructure is behind it, what it costs, or how it's being selected.
ChatBoba is explicit about this by default:
- The active provider and model are always visible in the interface
- You always know which provider is handling each request
- Token usage is tracked per message where supported
- Cost estimates are shown alongside usage
- You can see your usage history in account settings
- For BYOK users, usage is visible in both ChatBoba and your provider's own dashboard — two independent views of the same activity
This transparency isn't incidental — it's part of how ChatBoba is designed. Understanding what you're using helps you make better decisions about which model to reach for, and gives you meaningful control over your costs.
How to add your API keys
Adding a personal API key takes about a minute. You'll need a provider account first.
Your key is stored securely and used only to make requests on your behalf. You can remove it at any time from Settings.
Get started
ChatBoba is available now. Connect your own provider keys for immediate, full-control access — or use managed access where available for your account.
